About

Keighley is a bustling town located in Bronte Country, due to its close proximity to Haworth, the village once home to the Brontes. The town has lots to offer visitors with its many attractions and the surrounding countryside.

The town's industries have typically been in textiles, particularly wool and cotton processing. In addition to the manufacture of textiles there were several large factories making textile machinery.

East Riddlesden Hall is a fine example of a 17th century manor house and is a National Trust Property. The property has stunning gardens, tea room and a varied programme of events. Another fine country house to visit is Cliffe Castle, originally the spectacular mansion of the local Victorian millionaire and textile manufacturer, H I Butterfield. The house is now a large museum with a wide variety of displays. These include an array of glittering minerals, mounted birds and animals, original furnished rooms with chandeliers, William Morris stained glass and a programme of temporary exhibitions. There is also a fantastic children's playground in the surrounding grounds.

Keighley has a vast array of other attractions including, Ingrow Rail Museums and the Bus Museum, so you will never be without something to do.

There are plenty of opportunities to shop in Keighley and the popular Cavendish Street is a good place to start for local independent shops. The Airedale Shopping Centre also has lots to offer with its high street names.

Nearby is the picturesque village of Haworth, once home to the famous authors, the Brontes. You can reach the village of Haworth by taking a ride on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. This heritage railway passes through Haworth and terminates at Oxenhope. The railway featured the film The Railway Children and many other modern classics.
